The Mike Bon Gang launches self-titled album and 'Umaasa Pa Rin Ako' music video

The band behind the theme song of the new Koreanovela series, Reply 1997, is none other than The Mike Bon Gang.

The three-piece band composed of lead vocalist/guitarist Mike Bon with bassist/vocalist Jonathan Catacutan and drummer/vocalist Cholo Escano recently released their self-titled album as well as their latest music video Umaasa Pa Rin Ako.
Before the Korean drama premiered last Monday (August 10) on the Kapuso Network, the band was already excited. Mike shared, “Masaya grabe! Sobrang excited. Alam mo ‘yung araw-araw, wala nang patayan ng TV [dahil] inaabangan [ko] ‘yung mga teasers at saka ‘yung commercials.”
According to Cholo, he didn’t expect the network to use their latest song, “Nagulat na lang ako nang ibinalita sa akin.”
He narrated everything happened all at once. The drummer added, “Nagkataon talaga nagsabay-sabay pati ‘yung launching [at] ‘yung music video. ‘Yung unang thinking namin [ay] i-compile tapos ilabas [ang album] tapos bigla nangyari ang mga ito so talagang God’s will.

The band released ten songs under GMA Records which are about love and relationships, topics which most people can relate to.
During their launch at Jill’s, Fort Strip in Bonifacio Global City last July 28, the lead vocalist explained the meaning of each song, and performed the tracks Umaasa Pa Rin Ako, Relaks, Never Let Go,Agos, and Abutin.
Most songs were written by Mike while the last two tracks were done by Jonathan. The bassist said, “Ang sarap gumawa ng kanta ‘pag may naramdaman ka. Ang sarap eh kahit na heart break pa ‘yung kanta mo.”
