The songs in his new album Just Wright reflect the kind of music that’s bare, raw, and heartfelt.

Kapuso singer James Wright believes in updating himself with new music, but admits that he’s a bigger fan of old school styles.

“I like to keep up dun sa mga trending ngayon pero ‘pag time talaga para sa sarili ko, I love to just kick back and listen so some jazz talaga. Kasi ako naman, I believe na 'yung music natin dati, the lyrics, [and] everything about the music before is very genuine,” he said.

As a singer and artist, he feels disappointed that some result to integrating inappropriate lyrics to make songs catchier. He prefers the old school, sincere type of songwriting.

“I believe now [na may tendency na] pumangit siya eh. They use vulgarity, they use profanity [and] all sorts of things to make music appealing, pero I believe music should be something you listen to with your ears [and not take in] with your eyes. Dati… you just close your eyes, listen and you can see everything, pero nowadays, parang kailangan may sumasayaw, may lighting, may pa-fireworks pa 'yan,” he noted.

“I just miss that sort of music and some of that shows dito sa album ko,” he shared.

He also takes pride in how his album is a result of the hard work of Filipinos.

“There are two songs here written by Vehnee Saturno [so] para siyang dating OPM na it’s got that flavor to it. It reminds me of the old times when it was just a bit groovy and everything. I’m very thankful that he was able to grace my album [with his work]. We [also] have producers and composers that are based in the US pero kababayan natin. It’s all original music and we are really proud to say na we made this [album],” he concluded.

Just Wright is now out digitally on iTunes and Spotify, and physically in Astrovision, Astroplus and other record bars nationwide.
