VP Leni Robredo endorses open source for PPE suit designed by local fashion designers

Vice President (VP) Leni Robredo sought the help of local fashion designers to create a protective suit for medical frontliners fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their team has come up with the first medically reviewed design and is now ready to go on full production.

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) asked the help of local fashion designers as sourcing for personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies has been difficult, and celebrity fashion designer Mich Dulce answered the call.

With Mich's help, more Pinoy fashion designers joined the project and their design was medically reviewed in California.

Further consultation with doctors and local fabric suppliers led the OVP to realize the design that's appropriate to provide the utmost protection for our healthcare workers.

Vice President Robredo wrote, “Our prototype has been approved!!! The one approved was made by Joey Socco using Tafetta Silver Back Lining. Thank you to Dr Reina Tajonera for suggesting and donating the fabric. Was told she even autoclaved it!! We can go full steam into production now.”

She also added, “The pattern is for everyone's consumption. We will be producing in bulk but you can all have your local mananahis make them for your own health frontliners, specially those in the provinces. Please just make sure you use Tafetta SBL to ensure utmost protection. The good thing about this is this is reusable.”
