LOOK: Introducing the 'Trikini,' A set of matching bikini and face mask

By Racquel Quieta

Ever since the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) became a pandemic, the face mask has also become an essential part of everyone's daily lives.

Undoubtedly, wearing face masks has become the 'new normal'.

While its primary use is to protect one from COVID-19, international and local designers have also created more visually appealing versions of it.

You can protect yourself from the virus while looking stylish at the same time, right?

In the future, when the quarantine is lifted, and people are once again allowed to go to public places, many would most probably still want to take precaution and continue wearing face masks.

But what about when you finally go to the beach? What kind of face mask should you wear?

These seem to be the questions that Italian designer Tiziana Scaramuzzo wanted to address when she created the 'trikini'.

The 'trikini' is basically a three-piece beach wear, which includes a cloth face mask that matches with your bikini's design.

In an interview with Italian news outlet Centropagina, Scaramuzzo said that she first conceptualized the 'trikini' while joking with her family.

Scaramuzzo's beachwear brand called Elexia Beachwear was forced to stop operations when the pandemic started.

And as their response to the COVID-19 health crisis, they started creating fashionable face masks.

Later on, Scaramuzzo leveled-up her face mask creations by making ones that match with bikinis. Hence, the birth of the 'trikini'.

The 'trikini' is sells for around 70 euros. In Philippine peso, that is approximately P3,800.

Scaramuzzo's creation went viral not only in Italy but also in other parts of the world.

From the social distancing couture made famous by Erykah Badu and Naomi Campbell, to fashionable face masks by Christian Siriano and many others, and now to Scaramuzzo's 'trikinis', the COVID-19 pandemic had given birth to a lot of groundbreaking creations in the fashion industry. And there are probably more to come.

However, the World Health Organization and other health authorities have not yet issued guidelines about whether people should indeed wear face masks when they return to the beach, or what type of material should be used in making the 'trikinis'.

But, like the old saying goes, 'Better safe than sorry'.

Would you be wearing one of these 'trikinis' when you finally hit the beach again? Sound off in the comments section, mga Kapuso!
