LOOK: Luxury face masks and face shields

By Racquel Quieta

No doubt, health and safety are the top two things in everyone's pandemic priority list. However, there are some who still want to look stylish while staying safe by wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) that offer some degree of protection against COVID-19 and at the same time fashionable.

Would you rock these luxury face masks and face shields?

This is where luxury PPE enters the picture. Ever since face masks and face shields have become a staple in people's OOTDs in the new normal, several fashion brands and designers have come up with their own unique face mask and face shield designs, including luxury brands.

Below are some of the most expensive face masks and face shields that have jaw-dropping prices.

Yvel

Israeli jeweler Yvel created what is dubbed as the world's most expensive face mask. The bespoke face mask is made with no less than 3,608 natural black and white diamonds and 250 grams of pure 18-karat white gold.

It was reportedly designed by Orna and Isaac Levy, owners and designers of Yvel, for an unnamed Chinese billionaire client based in the U.S.

It is said to have a value of US$1.5 million or a whopping 72,757,500 in Philippine peso! That means it's worth the same as a brand-new house and lot in an upscale village in Manila.

Burberry

In August, Burberry became the first luxury brand to launch its own face mask. It's made from excess fabric and features the brand's signature tartan plaid print. It also conveniently comes with a small travel pouch.

Burberry's face mask is reportedly worth 120 U.S. dollars each -that's almost 6,000 in Philippine peso--and it's a more guilt-free luxury PPE to splurge on since 20% of the proceeds will go to the Burberry Foundation COVID-19 Community fund.

Louis Vuitton

The world-famous fashion house Louis Vuitton (LV) is releasing a photochromatic face shield, which transforms from clear to dark when exposed to direct sunlight.

The face shield will also feature LV's signature monogram print and gold studs and can double as a hat if the visor is flipped up.

There's no official price yet for the LV face shield, but it's rumored to be worth 961 U.S. dollars or around 47,000 pesos.

Michael Ngo

Celebrity designer Michael Ngo, who has created amazing performance looks for pop icons such as Jennifer Lopez and Ariana Grande, has come up with his own collection of stylish face masks, which consists of 180 designs.

The prices of his chic face masks range from 45 to 500 U.S. dollars, which is around 2,000 up to 24,000 in Philippine peso.

His most expensive face mask is a neoprene-scuba Mask encrusted with a blend of Swarovski jet crystals and breathable bonded-foam lining. It comes with a disposable filter pouch and adjustable bungee strap.

The great thing about Michael Ngo's face masks is that 100% of the net proceeds are given to the LA Food Bank. So, customers get to donate indirectly by purchasing his stylish face masks.

But it's important to keep in mind that these were mainly created to keep you stylish. So, it's best to also wear a medical-grade face mask or face shield along with these luxury PPE for guaranteed protection.
