Fendace: Fendi and Versace team up for surprise joint collection 'The Swap'

By Racquel Quieta

The world of fashion was shookt yesterday as Fendi and Versace unveiled their surprise joint collection titled “Versace and Fendi: The Swap.”

The two luxury fashion houses presented their own take of each other's brand, which basically meant they “swapped” roles in creating the collection.

Pieces in the joint capsule were co-designed by the legendary Donatella Versace and Fendi's creative directors Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi.

The Fendace collection is made up of two parts: the Versace by Fendi collection and the Fendi by Versace collection.

The idea of seeing the Fendi monogram and the Versace Greek Key motif together in one fashion piece seemed like an impossible dream years ago, but that's exactly what the Versace by Fendi collection served in yesterday's runway show.

The Fendi by Versace collection, on the other hand, showcased punk-rock-themed pieces that featured safety pins embellishments, which is clearly a nod to Elizabeth Hurley's infamous black Versace dress in 1994.

Some pieces like the Fendi baguette also featured the brand's double signature and Versace's signature Medusa.

The Versace and Fendi Swap is the first time that the two rival Italian luxury labels, owned by different conglomerates, have worked together. Fendi is part of LVMH, which owns Louis Vuitton, while Versace is part of U.S. firm Capri Holdings, which owns Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo.

And of course, such an iconic moment requires an unforgettable lineup of iconic models. So, the biggest names in the modeling industry, both old and new, graced the runway of the Fendace collection, including Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Paloma Elsesser, Gigi Hadid, Amber Valletta, and Emily Ratajkowski.

Hollywood stars also graced the iconic event such as Dua Lipa, Demi Moore, and Elizabeth Hurley.

Donatella took to Instagram to celebrate their historic feat.

She posted a photo with Kim Jones and captioned it: “What an unbelievable feeling. HISTORY IN THE MAKING! Working with you has been fun, creative and EXCITING. love you @mrkimjones.”

While it is Versace and Fendi's first time doing such a disruptive team up, it is not the first time that two fashion houses united for a groundbreaking joint collection.

Earlier in April, Gucci “hacked” fellow Kering brand Balenciaga for its centenary collection, Aria.
