Miriam Quiambao recalls painful bout of mastitis

By Racquel Quieta

Beauty queen-turned-TV host Miram Quiambao-Roberto just revealed that two days ago she suffered from a painful bout of mastitis, a condition where the breasts become inflamed due to plugged ducts.

In an Instagram post, the 46-year-old new mom detailed her mastitis experience and posted a photo of herself while enduring the pain.

Miriam said it all began when her toddler, Elijah, accidentally elbowed her breast in the early afternoon that day. She then started feeling the mastitis symptoms later that evening.

“By early evening, my breast was engorged, warm, sore, and tender and by 9 p.m. I was starting to feel feverish.

“I texted my Ob/Gyne @dr.beckysingson of my plight and she suggested to take a paracetamol and quadruple my intake of advanced omega pills to help reduce inflammation.

“Getting the baby to drain my breast was SUPER PAINFUL that I really winced in pain and teared up at some point but it had to be done.

“Took this photo as a reminder of that night. By God's grace, now, I feel much better.”

She then offered some words of encouragement for moms like herself who may be suffering from mastitis or other problems.

“I don't know what challenges you are facing---whether you are a breastfeeding mom like me or if you suffering through depression, a physical, financial, emotional, or spiritual challenge.

“Know that God will never give you a challenge that you cannot handle. His grace is always sufficient and you can rely on Him to give you the strength you need at any given time.”

Miriam ended her IG post by sharing an inspiring Bible verse.

“I can do all things in Christ who gives me strength.” - Phil. 4:13 #NationalBreastfeedingMonth #BreastfeedingMom #MastitisSurvivor #jesusismyhealer”

Miriam could not have shared her mastitis experience at a more fitting time, since August also happens to be Breastfeeding Awareness Month in the Philippines.

We're glad Miriam is now doing fine and we salute all moms like her for the dedication and sacrifices they make in breastfeeding their babies.
