(TRIGGER WARNING: Eating Disorder)

Kapuso actress Kylie Padilla opened up about recovering from an eating disorder after a decade.

“Even though I am a recovering bulimic, every day is a challenge for me kasi the habits that were formed and the things that were exposed to me when I was a kid turned into a thinking pattern and a belief system that I have,” she admitted.

In a 20-minute video on her YouTube channel, Kylie spoke about growing up feeling like she did not fit into society's beauty standards. Noting her “chubby” figure and small eyes, she revealed that this unhealthy mindset led her to develop bulimia.

Bulimia is a psychological eating disorder where a person often engages in uncontrolled episodes of overeating. Following this, they would purge the food from their system through inappropriate methods like vomiting or the use of laxatives.

The Betcin actress also spoke about her healing process which began when she got pregnant with her first child Alas in 2017.

Kylie realized that her eating disorder was “abusive” to her self-esteem, and it caused her a lot of anxiety. According to her, this was the time she “grew so much respect for [her] body” as she started to understand that her value did not lie in how thin she looked.

The actress shared that her recovery is a continuous process since she still has to unlearn some unhealthy beliefs and habits deeply embedded in her during those ten years.

“There's nothing wrong with wanting to look beautiful. It's just that, sana you do it in a way that makes you healthier and makes you feel more confident as a person,” she said.
