Richard Gomez gushes about malunggay in latest cooking vlog

Actor and politician Richard Gomez once again cooked with produce from his backyard in the latest episode of his online cooking series Goma at Home.

The recipe he featured is malunggay and caramelized onion omelette and he cooked it with malunggay picked from his backyard.

"Itong malunggay na 'to, it's so easy to grow. Lalo na ngayon sa panahon ng COVID, I really encourage people to plant different kinds of vegetables," he says at the beginning of the video.

He then shared the health benefits of the leafy vegetable.

"This one is very rich in vitamins, antioxidants, vitamin C, iron. So 'pag mataas ang iron, that means it's good for your blood. It may also lower your blood sugar level," he shared.

Richard also noted how easy it is to grow malunggay.

"You know what's nice about malunggay leaves? It's a very nutritious food. It grows so fast. It grows easily. Almost anywhere tutubo ang malunggay. And more than anything, libre magtanim ng maluggay. Libre magpatubo," he says.

Richard then headed back to his beautiful outdoor kitchen after picking malunggay from his yard to cook his dish.

Here's how to make Richard's malunggay and caramelized onions omelette.

Ingredients
1 cup of malunggay leaves
2 large white onions
olive oil
4 eggs
salt
pepper
lemonx

Procedure
1. Remove malunggay leaves from the stem
2. Chop 2 large white onions
3. Caramelize onions in a pan with olive oil under medium heat. Add more oil occasionally to keep from onions from drying
4. Beat 4 eggs
5. Add malunggay to the pan once the onions have browned
6. Add salt and pepper to taste
7. Add the beaten eggs
8. When one side is cooked, flip the omelette using a plate then slide back to the pan
9. Squeeze lemon juice over the omelette and serve
