Bretman Rock is the ultimate 'plantita'

By Bianca Geli

Beauty vlogger Bretman Rock showed a different side of him as he took his YouTube subscribers on a tour of his home garden.

Bretman began his video by welcoming his viewers for a plant tour, "Today I am going to be showing you guys a cute little plant tour."

He said the coronavirus pandemic led him to be more invested in plants. "I did accumulate a lot of my plants during COVID."

Taking care of plants seems to run in his family, as his late father, Edmund Laforga also loved plants.

He shared, "I did start buying plants back in November when my dad, unfortunately, passed away and I went back home to the Philippines and I saw his greenhouse--which is literally non-existent anymore."

"I just remembered all his bonsai's and all his flowering plants that he used to collect.

He said he eventually realized, "My gosh, I want more plants."

"COVID happened and I really bought more plants," Bretman added.

He also made a disclaimer, "Do not expect me to get all these plant [names] correct."

Bretman then showed different sections of his house with plants.

He first showed his air plants, which he noticed are more appreciated by older people.

"I feel like older people are the ones who are really into air plants and every time I'm helping my uncle in their nursery, a lot of people who are attracted to air plants are usually older individuals.

Next, he showed off his succulent and flowering plants in an outdoor garden.

He said he personally waters his potted plants every day. "I honestly water these guys every day because that's what they need.

"Especially if you have them in potted plants."

Bretman is also into scoring unique plants, which he keeps in his home office.

"I do try to collect rare plants. This is not just my green room, this is also my office."

He revealed, "I have four humidifiers in there because I just want my plants to thrive."

Bretman got all excited when he showed his favorite plant, "This is my absolute favorite plant. This is a Philodendron Pink Princess."

"I love her so much. She had a new leaf last week but the wind knocked it out," he narrated

"Thank God she's growing a new leaf, looks like it's going to be a lot of pink so I'm so excited about it," he added.

Bretman also has a hack for dealing with plant insects.

"I take neem oil and I take a pump of dishwashing soap and I mix that up with water and I spray them onto the plants and I wipe it down."

One rare plant Bretman has is a type of money tree. "What I'm about to show you, you've probably never seen before," he said.

He continued, "This is a variegated money tree. She's not doing that great because my uncle put her out in the sun and she got a friend but she's home now and doing better.

"She's literally giving me life," Bretman said.

"My pride and joys, we have a Philodendron Grace."

Another interesting plant Bretman showed resembles leather.

"This one is actually called a Pigskin Philodendron.

"She's so cute, if you feel it, it literally looks like leather and it feels like leather too, that's why it's called pigskin."

Aside from being a plantita, Bretman is also a cat person so he makes sure to keep them away from his plants to avoid animal poisoning.

"My cats are not allowed up here because they tend to chew on the plants and some plants are toxic to cats and obviously I don't want my cats dying on me now or like losing weight."

He added, "I do try my best to keep my cats out of my room."

He ended the video by showing love for his fans. "Thank you for watching my video guys, my plants love you as much as I love them.

"I do have a plant page and its @bretmanroot."
