Ghibli fans, rejoice! Studio Ghibli had just announced the release of 400 free-to-use images from eight of their classic animated films, including From Up On Poppy Hill, Ponyo, Spirited Away, Tales From Earthsea, The Secret World of Arrietty, The Tale of The Princess Kaguya, The Wind Rises, and When Marnie Was There.

Studio Ghibli co-founder Toshio Suzuki made the announcement on their website. The Google-translated note read: “From this month, we will provide scene photos of all Studio Ghibli works in sequence. This month, we will provide 8 works, mainly new works, for a total of 400 pieces. Feel free to use it within the bounds of common sense.”

This means fans are definitely free to share the stills on social media and create fan artworks if they wish to, but of course, should not make a profit out of it.

There are currently 50 stills from each of the eight Studio Ghibli movies mentioned above, so that's a lot of images you can use as your wallpaper or play around with on your photo editing software.

But the good news doesn't end there as Studio Ghibli plan to release more stills from more of their movies over time. So, that's a lot to look forward to!

It really seems like the renowned Japanese animation film studio had been spoiling their fans this year with plenty of pleasant surprises.

It started with the streaming of their films in platforms such as HBO Max and Netflix, then they launched free Zoom backgrounds inspired by their films in April, and now they released 400 free-to-use images from their films.

No doubt, 2020 is such a great year for Ghibli fans. Enjoy!
