Playlist feature: Maricris Garcia believes in the potential of OPM

By Text by MERYL LIGUNAS, Interview by ANICA SAMODIO

Even with the popularity of Western music, Maricris Garcia recognizes that Original Pilipino Music (OPM) holds tremendous potential. She herself is humbled to contribute to the industry and admits to be impressed with all the talent that surrounds her.

Nakaka-inspire. [I ask myself] Paano nila nagagawa ito? Paano sila nakakasulat ng ganitong kanta?” she posed.

The singer-actress still has many dreams for her music career. Some of these are writing her own songs, fulfilling her dream collaborations and making more albums.

[and now, we also] have plans of making an album,” she enumerated.

Though she doesn’t consider herself as an expert in the field, she hopes that younger Filipino musicians will keep trying to hone their craft and help OPM flourish.

“Just do your thing. Tuloy lang,” she advised.

The Kapuso performer is set to grace the Playlist stage tomorrow to perform Ako Na Lang Ang Bibitaw, the theme from Koreanovela Carmina.
