LIST: How to help frontliners during enhanced community quarantine

Following the announcement of President Rodrigo Duterte for an enhanced community quarantine, individuals and private companies are making a stand by actively participating in drives to help healthcare workers and frontliners in battling the coronavirus pandemic.

For us individuals who are currently stuck at home but feel the desire to help, it seems right that we do something to help alleviate the problem. The great thing is, you can.

Here we list the companies who are currently accepting donations and helping those at the frontlines in beating this pandemic.

1. The Kapuso Foundation
Accepting: Cash donations

In line with the company's 70th-anniversary slogan, “Buong puso para sa Pilipino,” GMA Network's very own Kapuso Foundation is accepting monetary donations that will be used to purchase face masks, rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizers, and gloves for the frontline medical workers of public government hospitals.

2. Life Cycles PH
Accepting: Spare bicycles and cash donations

Due to the enhanced community quarantine, public transports like buses, trains, and jeepneys have all been temporarily suspended for the time being. Because of this, doctors, nurses, and even workers who need to get to work without private cars have been walking long distances in the past few days.

To help alleviate the transportation problem, Life Cycles PH is asking for spare bikes people can lend or cash donations (approximately PhP 5,000) to give out bikes to frontliners in need.


3. Rock Ed Philippines
Accepting: Spare fruits, vegetables, ingredients, and cash donations

To people who have fresh fruits, vegetables, and ingredients to spare, education group Rock Ed Philippines is looking for you.

Since Friday, March 13, Rock Ed has called the aid of its followers to help them provide emergency rooms with a constant supply of nutritious freshly cooked meals.

Those who wish to assist may donate ingredients and vegetables through Rock Ed Philippines and by donating in cash in the bank account listed below:


4. Caritas Manila
Accepting: Cash donations

To help aid over 6,000 poor families in the capital region, Caritas Manila is calling for cash donations to supply sanitary kits and food supply to those who need it the most.

According to their Facebook page, a complete “Ligtas COVID-19” kit costs approximately PhP 2,000 each which is good enough to feed a family of five. It includes the following items:

  • 1 liter of 70% ethyl alcohol
  • 5 handy bottles of 30 ml of alcohol
  • 5 washable face masks
  • 1 liter of antibacterial liquid soap
  • 1 box of 100 tablets of vitamin C with zinc
  • A pair of reusable gloves
  • 1 liter of liquid bleach
  • 3 pieces of cleaning cloth
  • Eco bag

They will also be giving out PhP 700 worth of Caritas Manna food bags which includes

  • 5 kilos of rice
  • Monggo seeds
  • 9 assorted canned goods
  • 2 packs of Caritas Margins kalabasa/malunggay noodles
  • ¼ pack of sugar and salt
  • Eco Bag

Those who are willing to help may donate through online transfer (BDO, BPI, MetroBank, Unionbank) or through Lazada, Give2Asia, and GCash.


5. UP, Ateneo, and La Salle

Show your school pride by donating to either of the top three universities in the Philippines as they raise funds to provide assistance to frontliners.

Team Fighting Maroons
Accepting: Medical supplies and cash donations

With the creation of a cheaper alternative for COVID-19 testing, the UP Medical Foundation is asking for monetary donations to fund the mass production of its testing kit. Donations in the form of medical supplies, including surgical masks, disposable lab gowns, and shoe covers, are also welcome.


Team Green Archers
Accepting: Cash donations

La Salle, in partnership with Akbayan Partylist, is calling for Filipinos' support for the validation of the COVID-19 testing kits produced by the University of the Philippines.

According to the party list, much still needs to be done in terms of validating the kits. In order to do that, they're asking for the public and the government's cooperation to make the technology accessible to Filipinos during this period of crisis.

By donating, the financial resources will be used to accommodate the expenses of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as well as travel expenses for those who will be doing the validation.


Team Blue Eagles
Accepting: Cash donations

Finally, the Ateneo de Manila University Disaster Response and Management (DReaM) Team is calling for cash donations to fund the personal protective equipment of health workers. With complete gear, health workers will be able to minimize their exposure to the virus


6. Help for Health Movement
Accepting: Cash donations

Help for Health Movement is asking for donations to raise funds and provide 300 “Hugot Packs” for 300 healthcare workers.

  • In their GoGetFunding page, a “Hugot Pack” consists of vitamins, coffee, power bars, hand sanitizers, tissues, and other personal hygiene items good for 14 days. The packs will then be distributed in government hospitals within Metro Manila and, if successful, will extend sending packs to nearby provinces.
