The Pontifical Council is the central office of the Catholic Church responsible for promoting interreligious dialogue, to cultivate mutual understanding, respect, and collaboration between Catholics and followers of other religions.

Recently, on April 14, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle became the first Asian to be elevated to the rank of a Cardinal-Bishop, the highest order within the College of Cardinals.

And in December last year, Cardinal Tagle was also appointed as the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, formerly called the Propaganda Fide, which is responsible for episcopal nominations in mission lands.

Cardinal Tagle held his last mass in the Philippines on January 30 at the Philippine Conference on New Evangelization, before flying to the Vatican to fulfill his duties as Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
