By Racquel Quieta

Hey, cinephiles! Are you ready for a 'new normal' in movie viewing experience? It's been months since people have last seen a movie in theaters, and many have undoubtedly missed watching films on the big screen.

The long wait is finally over as SM City Pampanga launched SM Cinema Drive-In: Movies at Sundown on Friday, July 31.

While a drive-in cinema is not an entirely new concept, especially for other countries like the U.S., the Philippines has never had an actual drive-in cinema and SM Drive-In Cinema is actually going to be the first one in the country.

Through the establishment of a drive-in cinema, moviegoers can now watch new movie releases on the big screen from the comfort of their own cars.

This new out-of-home movie experience will keep Filipino cinephiles greatly entertained and safe at the same time amid the COVID-19 pandemic, as proper physical or social distancing is observed.

Their drive-in cinema will only be open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with only two screenings scheduled per day, one at 5:30 p.m. and the other at 8:20 p.m.

Tickets will only be sold online at SM Tickets and not at the venue. So, it's best to book your tickets days ahead of the screening.

Movie patrons will be allowed to enter the cinema starting 4:30 p.m. and late comers who will arrive beyond 30 minutes of the start of the screening will not be admitted and will also not be refunded.

Only two to four persons are allowed per vehicle, and each ticket costs 400 pesos, inclusive of a Snack Time bundle, consisting of bottled water, regular-sized popcorn, and beef franks.

Take note also that only enclosed vehicles with windows are allowed. Thus, motorbikes will not be permitted in the SM Cinema Drive-In.

Movie patrons will be instructed to set their car's FM radio to a specific frequency to broadcast the audio of the movie straight into their vehicles. You may also bring a radio or other devices with FM capabilities.
