Miss Universe PH Celeste Cortesi advocates for children with cleft palates

By Ron Lim

Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi may be in the middle of a competition right now, but the Philippine bet for the Miss Universe 2022 crown is making sure to advocate for the less privileged even while competing.

Celeste's most recent post on her Instagram account puts into focus Smile Train, the “world's largest cleft charity” whose mission is to empower local medical professionals to provide free cleft treatment in their communities.

In the caption to the post, Celeste shares that Smile Train's work enables these operations to happen in “more than 90 countries” as well as comprehensive cleft care.

This is just the latest advocacy work that Celeste has recently been involved in. Before flying off to the United States and New Orleans, she visited communities in Lanao del Norte alongside the non-government organization Save the Children.

Months before Christmas, Celeste also helped repackage relief goods to “truly kickstart the holiday season” for families that have been victims of a fire in Sampaloc, Manila.

Celeste has just recently taken part in the Miss Universe's personality interview as she heads to the Miss Universe coronation night on January 15 (Philippine time). Celeste will be competing for the newly revealed “Force for Good" crown. Made by jewelry and luxury watch company Mouawad, the crown features 110 carats of blue sapphires and 48 carats of white diamonds.

According to new Miss Universe owner Anne Jakrajutatip, the new crown is valued at almost $6 million, or Php335,133,000 based on current exchange rates.

To help her goal, the Miss Universe Philippines organization has called on Filipinos to help Celeste “carve her path” to the crown by voting on the Miss Universe app.
