Mikee Quintos on becoming an actress: “It just happened.”
The Write One star Mikee Quintos admits that being an actress was not part of her plans or dreams before entering showbiz.
In an interview on the Surprise Guest with Pia Arcangel podcast, Mikee said that her career started when she was recruited to audition for the talent reality show Starstruck, but did not make the cut.
She then recalled that the same recruiter saw her at the mall show where her friend, who joined To the Top, another reality talent show, was performing.
“Sabi niya, 'VTR ka, try mo lang.' Nung nag-VTR ako, 'yun na po. A month later, nag-panel na 'ko with the managers,” she said.
She added that a week before the finals of the reality talent show her friend joined in, she auditioned for Sparkle, the talent management agency of GMA, and she signed on in the same month.
After a year of attending workshops, Mikee got her first breakout role as Lira in the telefantasya series, Encantadia. The young actress said that she and co-star Migo Adecer were tapped to do a screen test two months before the storycon.
“Sobrang kabado pa ako nun kasi ayaw nila sabihin for Enca e. Ayaw nila sabihin sa'kin na para sa kung anong project,” she recalled.
She added, “Pero sabi ko, sige, gagawin ko lang yung best ko tapos ayun na, I got the role a month later.”
Despite getting the role, Mikee said that she received a lot of criticism since she was a new actress at the time, as to why she was being given a big role already.
“Tinanggal ko yung mga ganun, nagfocus ako sa gawin yung work, mag-aral ng script, nag-change po yung reactions ng mga tao,” she said.
“Dun ko rin natutunan 'yun na you just stay yourself and meron kang proseso, magtiwala ka dun kasi magbubunga naman 'yung hard work. And the rest is history,” she added.
Despite having her parents and a sister in politics, Mikee said that she does not plan on entering it and would only be there to support her family as she prefers and enjoys acting more. Instead, she would've continued being an architect which she is currently studying for.
