Rachelle Ann Go details how she prayed for and met husband Martin Spies

By Cherry Sun

For Rachelle Ann Go, marrying her husband Martin Spies is undoubtedly an answered prayer. In fact, the Kapuso star and international theatre performer was able to describe him in detail even if they still hadn't met.

Rachelle and Martin shared how their love story began in the first part of Rachelle's latest vlog. According to the couple, it was in January 2017 when they were both praying to find a spouse.

Rachelle was aboard her flight to New York for work, when she began writing down in her journal. She was asking for guidance for the new chapter in her international career when she felt she also needed to pray for a partner.

She admitted, “That was the first time that I started praying for a husband. And I was like, 'Lord, please give me a husband.'”

Rachelle detailed the characteristics and even the physical appearance of the man she wanted for her spouse. She was delighted to receive exactly what she prayed for.

She continued, saying, “It was very detailed and specific. Talagang sabi ko, tall, tapos Godly, very spiritual. Tapos 'yung physical sabi ko, you know, a man with a good heart tapos may stubbles. Ganyan 'di ba, sakto talaga (laughs). Basta sobrang it was so specific 'no, na talagang parang it seems impossible but I was like you know, anything is possible with God so why not pray for what you want.”

Meanwhile, Martin revealed that he was also praying to meet someone about that same time. He was in a bible group with his male friends when they talked about their faith goals for that year.

He said, “I shared with them that, 'this year is the year I really want to meet someone.'”

When Rachelle arrived in New York, she met their now Ninang Ritz who looked after her while in the city and who introduced her to the church where Martin also used to go.

On her first Sunday, Rachelle went alone to the church. She was walking down the aisle when she suddenly caught a glimpse of a guy standing in the corner. She felt her heart racing, and she had to do a second look.

She said, "Nag-double look ako pero 'yung pag-double look ko guys, na-slo-mo talaga, 'yung talagang sabi ko talaga, 'This is the guy I'm gonna marry.' Ganun. Talagang 'yun 'yung sinabi ko sa sarili ko, but then I was like, 'C'mon Shin, focus. 'Di ba you're here in church, like you're gonna focus. You're not supposed to look at anyone,' 'di ba.”

Martin didn't notice her that day but they met a week after when their Ninang Ritz accompanied Rachelle to church.

He recalled, “And that second Sunday that you were there, that's when I was coming down the stairs into the auditorium. I saw Ritz whom I haven't seen for a while and you were standing behind her and she introduced us. I was wondering, 'Wow, who is this new member of the church coming?' So then after that, I started asking around and googling a little bit.”

The two knew that they wanted to get to know each other more. Their other common friend was instrumental in their next meeting.

From a hang out arranged by a friend between a few people, Rachelle and Martin began to build a friendship. And on April 23, they became officially a couple.
