Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards 2021 list includes 15 luxury hotels and spas from the Philippines

By Bong Godinez

Philippine hotels have made it into the prestigious Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards for 2021.

Six properties maintained their esteemed five-star rating with Marco Polo Ortigas, Nüwa Manila at City of Dreams, Nüwa Spa Manila, Okada Manila, The Peninsula Manila, and Sky Tower at Solaire Resort & Casino, all bagging the highest grade.

In total, 15 hotels and spas here in the Philippines were cited as among the best in the world.

“The 63rd annual list features 283 Five-Star, 576 Four-Star and 438 Recommended hotels; 73 Five-Star, 136 Four-Star and 77 Recommended restaurants; and 90 Five-Star and 200 Four-Star spas worldwide,” wrote Jennifer Kester for Forbes.

“To rate properties, Forbes Travel Guide inspectors stay at each hotel for three days and two nights, posing as regular guests and paying their own way,” the article said further.

“They test up to 900 objective, stringent standards, from modern-day luxuries--such as whether a room is set up to enhance sleep, and the food-and-beverage choices are health-conscious--to more traditional luxuries, like the quality of the interior décor and design of the staff's uniforms.”

Tokyo in Japan emerged as the city with the most number of new five-star hotels overall with four.

These are The Capitol Hotel Tokyu, The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo, and Takanawa Hanakohro.

It's worth saying that this latest list came on the heels of a global pandemic that crippled the tourism and travel industry worldwide since early last year.

“The global Covid-19 vaccine rollout offers some hope for 2021, allowing stir-crazy, grounded travelers to start planning their next getaway,” the article mentioned.

“To help inspire those next adventures, Forbes Travel Guide presents its 2021 Star Awards for the world's best luxury hotels, restaurants, and spas.”
