Siargao named best island in Asia by Conde Nast Traveler
Siargao continues its streak as one of the top favorite tourist destinations in the Philippines as it was hailed the Best Island in Asia in Conde Nast Traveler's (CNT) annual Reader's Choice Awards list this 2021.
The teardrop-shaped island in Surigao del Norte is one of the three Philippine beaches to make to the travel website's list. It topped the best islands in Asia category and garnered a rating of 97.77.
Siargao was followed on the list by the Raja Ampat Islands in Indonesia with a rating of 97.67 and our very own Palawan with a rating of 97.54.
Other top islands on the list next to Palawan are Bali, Indonesia (94.37), Sri Lanka (94.32), Langkawi, Malaysia (93.96), Koh Samui, Thailand (93.33), Boracay (93.26), and Phuket Beach, Thailand.
Aside from the three Philippines beaches making it to the list, our country also landed on the 20th spot in CNT's list of Top Countries in the World.
Other places that were declared the best island in their respective continents are Bazaruto Archipelago (Africa and the Indian Ocean); Cape Breton Island, Canada (North America); Islas Secas, Panama (Central and South America); Bora Bora, French Polynesia (Australia and the South Pacific); St Barth's (the Caribbean and the Atlantic); and Hvar, Croatia (Europe).
Winners of CNT's Readers' Choice Awards are determined through the results of a travel survey, which is participated in by over 20,000 readers worldwide.
CNT said on their website that the list "reflects the places that travelers yearned for the most and the ways in which the tourism industry has slowly begun to reopen."
Siargao has previously received other international recognitions such as Best Island in Asia in October 2018, and was also included in CNT's best holiday destinations of 2020 and Time magazine's World's Greatest Places in 2021.
