Actor-politician Alfred Vargas and his wife Yasmine are celebrating another major milestone for their family as their son, Cristiano, showcased immense determination both in sports and school activities.
In a heartwarming Instagram update, Yasmine shared her pride after Cristiano contributed to the Ateneo Grade School Boys swimming team's impressive victory at the Milo National Interschool Short Course Swimming Championship 2026, securing their status as 4-peat champions.
What made the achievement even more remarkable was Cristiano's perseverance, having gone straight from a hospital visit to the competition.
Yasmine detailed the nerve-wracking night before the event: "The night before the meet, at 9 PM, he was still in the ER getting hydrated and receiving IV medication because of persistent vomiting."
She continued, "Thankfully, his labs were okay, and after being assessed, he got the go signal from his doctor. We told him to rest, but he didn't want to miss his first competition as part of the Ateneo Varsity, or let down his teammates. Despite everything, he placed 3rd in all his strokes out of 37 kids."
The proud mom expressed her awe at her son's commitment, adding, "So proud of your determination, Cristiano! You showed up, gave it your all, and refused to give up, not just for yourself, but for your team. 💙
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam.
Congratulations to the Ateneo Grade School Boys 4-Peat Champions! 🏆💙"

A week of wins
Cristiano's athletic success comes just a week after he celebrated a cultural win at school. During Ateneo De Manila University Grade School's Buwan ng Wika event—centered on the theme "Mula Sa Alon ng Kasaysayan tungo sa Teknolohiya: Wikang Filipino at AI, tulay sa yaman ng impormasyon"—Cristiano bagged the "Pinakamagandang Kasuotan" award.
Yasmine honored her roots in an Instagram post commemorating his special award, writing: "Proud to be from Lumban, Laguna- the Embroidery Capital of the Philippines.
"The other day Cristiano won “Pinakamagandang Kasuotan”, wearing a beautiful barong that proudly showcases the artistry and craftsmanship our town is known for. Thank you, @liza_mondez_barong , for making him look extra gwapo! 🇵🇭"
