EXO's Chanyeol is enlisting for his mandatory military service next month.
EXO member Park Chanyeol's enlistment has been confirmed and revealed.
His music label SM Entertainment shared a statement on February 26 saying, "Chanyeol will be enlisting as an active duty soldier on March 29.”
The agency continued, “His enlistment location and time will not be revealed, and no special events will take place.”
Chanyeol is the fifth EXO member to enlist next to Xiumin and D.O. who have already been discharged while other members Suho and Chen are still currently serving.
Their enlistment is part of South Korea's mandatory military enlistment for its male citizens in their twenties who are fit to serve the military and undergo training which lasts approximately for 18 months.
Prior to the announcement of his military enlistment, Chanyeol wrote a letter opening up to fans and expressing gratitude. He wrote a letter for his fans through EXO's fan community.
"Hello. This is Chanyeol. I'm writing to EXO-L for the first time in a while. First of all, I wanted to say that I'm sorry for causing concern to EXO-L, who have waited a long time.
"I've felt so truly sorry that I couldn't express it in writing and I thought a lot about EXO-L during that time. I worried and thought a lot about how I could express my feelings to EXO-L in words.
"I was so grateful for the posts and letters of support you sent me on my birthday. As I read each of them, I felt even more sorry and grateful. I thought a lot about how I can protect the precious hearts of EXO-L and how I can make it up to you as well, and I reflected on how I will not cause you worry again.
"Also, I will do my best to make it clear that you were not wrong to believe in me. It's a day later, but I once again sincerely thank all those who always remembered my first start.. and now that time has passed, congratulations to me on my ninth anniversary.
"I also remember and will never forget my start, nine years ago. I won't forget my mindset from that time. I will definitely protect all the generous love that you've sent me. EXO-L, please always stay healthy. Thank you."
Chanyeol also dropped a music video for his solo titled "Nothin" in July 2020.
He is also part of the EXO sub-unit EXO-SC with fellow member Sehun.
