Kelvin Miranda opens up about the heartbreaking loss of his father, Patricio, and shares his family's continuing fight for justice against the driver allegedly responsible for the fatal accident.

Kapuso actor Kelvin Miranda turned emotional as he recalled the passing of his father, Patricio.

In an interview with Ogie Diaz, the Kapuso actor opened up about the struggles he has faced since his father died after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a van.

Kelvin admitted that accepting his father's death remains difficult, saying the painful memories continue to resurface whenever he is alone.

"Hindi ko masasabi kung makaka-move on ako kasi 'yung nangyari na 'yun, lagi siyang sumasariwa sa (alaala ko). Lalo na kapag mag-isa ka tapos tapos na 'yung trabaho mo, mga ginagawa mo," he shared.

"Hihiga ka, syempre nakatingin ka lang sa kisame. Naiisip mo lang paulit-ulit 'yung nangyaring aksidente."

The loss became even more painful for Kelvin because it was his father who taught him how to ride a motorcycle. He described his father as a careful and defensive driver, especially because he worked as a ride-hailing app driver.

"Sa huling sandali ng buhay niya, kung makikita n'yo sa video, iniwas niya pa rin," Kelvin recalled.

"Tinry niya pa rin iwasan 'yung disgrasya. Gumana pa rin 'yung instinct niya, pero 'yun na talaga eh. Masyadong mabilis 'yung dating ng van. Kaya noong pagdating sa kanya, kahit na umiwas, siya pa rin (napuruhan)."

Kelvin also expressed gratitude that his father's passenger survived the accident, although the passenger reportedly suffered a leg injury and emotional trauma.

The actor then recalled receiving the news from his cousin. At first, he refused to believe it and repeatedly tried calling his father. When there was no answer, he rushed to the hospital.

"Sa ospital, parang pelikula 'yung nangyari na parang ayaw pa halos sabihin sa akin ng mga tao doon na 'yung nangyari nga," he said.

Kelvin said he was devastated when a nurse informed him that his father had already passed away.

"Na-shock ako doon na parang hindi ko alam 'yung gagawin ko. Nag-hysterical ako doon sa ospital," Kelvin emotionally remembered.

"Tinawagan ko na 'yung utol ko na humagulgol na nga ako. Sabi ko na, 'Tol, wala na si daddy, tol.' Hindi ko masabi sa kanya nang diretso 'yun kasi 'di ako naniniwala e. Hanggang sa inaabot na 'yung gamit niya. Nakita ko 'yung ID. Doon na ako talaga na ano..."

Kelvin said breaking the news to his family was one of the hardest moments, especially after seeing his mother—who had recently suffered a stroke—become overwhelmed with grief.

"Noong nangyari lahat 'yun, parang nagunaw na 'yung confidence ko. Parang doon [ko] na-realize na parang ang laki pala ng kawalan ng tatay sa pamilya kahit na 'yung presensya lang," Kelvin said.

Although he continued working to honor his father's wishes, Kelvin admitted that he struggled emotionally and initially could not bring himself to face his father's remains.

It was only on the third night of the wake that he finally gathered the courage to say goodbye.

"Ayoko ma-stress pero na-depress ako. Nawalan ako ng fire ng pagpupursige. Parang tinamad ako sa lahat ng bagay. Ganoon 'yung dating niya," he said.

"Hindi ko inaamin pero sa kanya ko gusto patunayan lahat nu'ng narating ko. Kasi siya lang 'yung laging nagku-question sa akin kung kaya ko ba."

Kelvin also recalled meeting the driver involved in the accident, admitting that he struggled to control his emotions because of the driver's alleged lack of sympathy and rude behavior.

"May galang pa rin naman ako makipag-usap kaya lang parang habang nagsasalita siya, the way siyang makipag-usap, medyo wala siyang alam mo 'yun sympathy. Parang ang sagot niya pa, 'Sige gawin n'yo na lang 'yung gusto n'yo gawin sa akin.' Tapos parang nagso-sorry siya pero walang sincerity sa ginagawa niya. Iba 'yung mood, biglang magbabago. Biglang magso-sorry na something."

Despite his anger, Kelvin said he chose to walk away, remembering his father's advice to remain calm and composed when faced with difficult situations.

"Eh 'yung sakit kasi naman na ginawa nila, hindi naman 'yun pisikal, e. Kaya parang hindi matutuwa 'yung tatay ko 'pag ginawa ko 'yon. Lumabas na lang ako. Humagulgol ako sa labas sa sobrang gigil ko. Nagdadasal lang ako na makuha namin 'yung hustisya," Kelvin said.

The family's complaint against the driver remains ongoing, with the first hearing already having taken place.

"Parang gusto na rin yata nilang umamin. Makipag-areglo, tapos magbigay ng danyos sa abot lang daw ng makakaya nila," he said.

For now, Kelvin said his mother and brother are handling the legal proceedings because he is not yet emotionally ready to take part.

"Makulong or kung ano lang yung tama na parusa para sa kanya. Kasi hindi ko rin naman dinarasal na may mangyaring masama sa tao," he said.

"Gusto ko lang 'yung equality and at the same time equity na rin na bigyan nila kami ng chance na mapatawad namin sila sa paraang kaya namin."

Kelvin announced his father's passing in April through an emotional Instagram tribute. He expressed regret that he had yet to prove himself to the man who inspired him.

"Wala pa akong napapatunayan sa'yo magmula noong sinuway ko 'yung gusto mo na magtapos ako ng pag-aaral para sa pag-aartista ko," he wrote.

"Marami akong laban na itinago sa'yo para isipin na kaya ko at malakas ako na kaya ko yung sarili ko."

He ended his tribute with a heartfelt message, expressing the love they rarely said aloud but always knew they shared.

"Mahal na mahal kita hindi man natin ito nasasabi sa isa't isa pero alam kong alam mo na mahal kita at alam ko rin na mahal mo ako," he wrote.
