Even before the actual The Miss Philippines pageant, the competition is looking to distinguish itself from other pageants in the country as it announced two days ago that there would be no swimsuit competition. Now, the organization is explaining why they chose to do so.
In a post on the official The Miss Philippines Instagram account, organizers explained that they did not have anything against swimsuits and that photoshoots will still be held at the country's “world-famous beaches and resorts,” The organization explained that the move was meant to “shift the focus on things other than a woman's vital statistics” onstage.
Instead of the swimsuit competition, The Miss Philippines pageant will hold a Runway Segment instead that will shine the spotlight on each of the candidates.
This new announcement comes after The Miss Philippines pageant announced the opening of applications just last week.
