Typhoon Obet being monitored inside PAR; Habagat to affect Luzon

Typhoon Obet (international name Saudel) is currently being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in extreme Northern Luzon, the state weather bureau PAGASA said Monday in its 4 p.m. advisory.

As of 3 p.m., the typhoon was located 1,375 km east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 165 kph and gusts of up to 205 kph.

During the same period, two tropical cyclones are also being monitored outside PAR by PAGASA.

Tropical Storm Astani was estimated outside PAR at 1,765 km east of Central Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gusts of up to 80 kph.

Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Gaemari (formerly Neneng) was spotted 505 km north northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gusts of up to 55 kph.

Forecast weather conditions

According to PAGASA, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat is expected to affect weather conditions in Luzon on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

The Habagat is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Cavite, Batangas, and Rizal.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected in Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, and the rest of Luzon due to the Habagat.

The rest of the country is expected to be affected by localized thunderstorms, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are forecast in Luzon and the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao, with waves running from 1.5 meters to 3.4 meters.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters are expected in the rest of the country, with waves running from 0.6 meters to 2.1 meters.

At the PAGASA Science Garden weather station in Diliman, Quezon City, the highest temperature recorded on Monday reached 31.3 degrees Celsius at 11 a.m., while the lowest temperature was logged at 27.6 degrees Celsius at 5 a.m.
