The 26-year old quenched the country's decade-long gold medal drought as he topped in the 100-meter breast stroke event scoring 1:01.46.

James also broke SEA Games record of 1:60 in men's 100-meter breast stroke.

“It was amazing. I could really feel the energy from the crowd. It really fueled me in my race and just helped me give it my all,” the swimming tanker said.

James had clinched two silver medals in last year's SEA Games held in Malaysia.
