KC Concepcion calls for government aid to help overloaded hospitals

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

Actress KC Concepcion is calling to the government and private sector to help create makeshift hospitals for frontliners and coronavirus patients.

The call was made after it was announced that a number of private hospitals --- namely St. Luke's Medical Center, The Medical City, and Makati Medical Center --- are already limiting the admittance of patients due to overcapacity.

In a series of tweets made on March 24, KC reiterated the urgency to create makeshift medical centers to accommodate as many coronavirus patients as possible.

She wrote on Twitter, “More medical care and ICU-equipped centers need to be created or built as soon as possible. This should be a huge priority right now to be able to accommodate as many patients as possible to receive better care and have a chance to recover and heal. Please, government and NGOs!”

She emphasized, “Even St. Luke's Quezon City and BGC is full now --- please build new medical centers for COVID-19 patients ASAP!!!! As soon as today!!!

“We need to be able to house incoming patients with ICU-level equipment!!! Let's go, Philippines.”

For the time being, KC also suggested converting closed but large infrastructures into temporary shelters for those with minor symptoms.

“To our leaders or NGOs, private sectors --- what if we convert MOA Arena for the time being into a makeshift hospital? Even the Arts Center or SM Aura Conference Center in BGC? It's enclosed, secure, and close to hospitals and the highway.

“Also, apparently distant from residential areas --- medical staff should be able to park and eat there, be housed in hotels nearby, etc.

“I just hope this is prioritized. Hospitals are turning down patients already.

“What's the point if our government will allow patients to be turned away?”

As of this writing, the Philippines has already confirmed more than 500 coronavirus patients with 20 patients recovered.
