Kevin Balot sends anti-discrimination message for trans women

By Dianara Alegre

Out and proud trans woman Kevin Balot is standing up for the LGBTQIA+ community.

The trans beauty queen empowered her people through her latest Instagram post where she once more raised their rainbow flag.

Simply captioned, “We won't be erased,” the trans beauty queen looked beautiful in her sleek straight hair and rainbow-colored lipstick.

The Miss International Queen 2012 also posted an anti-discrimination message in her IG Stories.

She said, “There are cis women who can't menstruate. There are cis women who can't give birth.

"There are cis women who grow large amounts of facial and body hair. There are cis women who are muscular.

"There are cis women with chiseled jaws. There are cis women whose chromosome are not XX.

“When you attempt to invalidate the womanhood of trans women using concepts of gender essentialism, you are in fact invalidating the womanhood of many cis women as well.”

The term “cis,” an abbreviation of cisgender, is a term for people whose gender identity matches the sex they were assigned with at birth.

Transgender rights and discrimination against trans women came to the fore after a certain Jzan Vern Tero came forward on Twitter and related her alleged catfishing experience with filmmaker Sam Morales.

On Twitter, the interior design student posted a thread detailing her experience of being catfished.

She said she met a man who identified himself as Bill Iver Reyes through a dating app. They got into a long distance relationship since Jzan is in Cebu while Bill is working in Makati.

Their on-and-off virtual relationship went on for eight long months until she discovered that she was fooled by Sam, who initially introduced herself as Bill's cousin but later turned out to be pretending as the man Jzan fell in love with.

On the other hand, Sam claimed that it was the bullying that she supposedly got in the hands of gay people during her childhood that fueled her anger. And that her "scheme" targeting the trans women was her way of revenge.

The thread immediately trended on Twitter as netizens and even celebrities rallied their support for Jzan and the other victims.

Fighting hate crimes against the trans community has been the mission for many movements worldwide.
