The senior citizen couple who both battled COVID-19 were admitted at the VRP Medical Center in Mandaluyong City. At first, it was only the wife who experienced symptoms of the Coronavirus Disease. Then, her husband pleaded to be with her in the isolation room. Hence, they had to sign a waiver that it was their decision to be with each other in the isolation room, although it was extremely risky.

After a few days, the husband did develop symptoms and also tested positive for COVID-19. But fortunately, the couple both survived the potentially deadly disease.

According to Rona Garcia, Hospital Administrator of VRP Medical Center, the couple's recovery definitely boosted the morale of their frontliners. She said, “We don't always see that situation in other cases. Minsan 'di ba 'yong isa medyo mas lumalala? So, it was a real victorious moment for us din na at least sabay gumaling yung mag-asawa. At the same time, I think…you know, our health care workers really needed that moment. Iyong parang pati sila nabuhayan talaga noong nakita nila na nag-recover nga iyong mag-asawa.”
