Lee Min Ho wants to portray 'a different image' in new K-drama 'The King: Eternal Monarch'

Just a day after its premiere, Lee Min Ho and the rest of the cast of upcoming K-drama series The King: Eternal Monarch held its press conference via livestream.

In the series, Lee Min Ho and actress Kim Go Eun will star in a fantasy romance that tells the story of two parallel universes--one in present-day Korea and the other portraying Korea in a constitutional monarchy.

The actor will play Emperor Lee Gon while Kim Go Eun will play detective Jung Tae Eul.

During the press conference, Lee Min Ho shared that one of his aims, after leaving the military, is to portray roles that can challenge him as an actor.

Fortunately for him, the upcoming series served as an answer.

He said to the press, “The name Kim Eun Sook [writer] has weight and influence on me. I chose to star in this drama based on my trust and faith in her.

“It was time to look back on how I portrayed characters back then.

"I knew I had to portray a different image from my 20s since I'm already in my 30s now, so I knew I had to grow.

"And I thought this was the proper time to show how I evolved in my acting. I thought about ways to do well as I reflected on my past.”

Furthermore, he also shared how he prepared for his role as the dashing Lee Gon.

He claimed, “I was cautious about the role so I looked for books by mathematicians and lectures by physicists--people who lean towards natural sciences like clear answers and tend to be serious and they take some time to solve for answers.

“They are the type of people who may seem frustrating, but they are sincere about every word they say.”

The King: Eternal Monarch is set to premiere on April 17 at 9 pm (Manila time). You can watch it on Netflix.
