Jasmine Curtis-Smith reminds public to be conscious of their energy consumption and waste disposal during ECQ

Jasmine Curtis-Smith voiced out her concerns about energy consumption and solid waste disposal during the time of enhanced community quarantine.

As someone who advocates for energy independence for the country, the Kapuso actress calls for lawmakers, members of private sectors, and other stakeholders to start investing in the Philippines's indigenous and sustainable energy.

This is following the absence of reliable electricity among millions of Filipinos due to lack of access and surge in power costs due to imports of fuel.

In GMANetwork.com's Skype interview, Jasmine shared a simple way to lessen the energy consumption in every household as most of the individuals are forced to stay indoors to avoid contracting COVID-19.

She said, "Lahat tayo nasa bahay, maraming nagtsa-charge ng phone, maraming nag-o-on ng ilaw, nag-o-on ng electric fan or aircon.

"Madaming naka-plug, basically, so madami tayong nako-consume.

"One of the ways I practice is kung 'di naman ginagamit, i-unplug mo kasi whether or not naka-on ang bagay, it still has electrical surges so nakaka-consume 'yan ng kuryente.

"And that means our country has to borrow more sa ibang bansa so sa ngayon, 'di natin afford na mangutang pa."

On the other hand, Jasmine also called on individuals to practice solid waste segregation.

Through this, they can manage their waste properly and, at the same time, can help the garbage collectors earn a little.
