By Nherz Almo

Ronnie Liang received two awards, the Meritorious Achievement Medal and Disaster Relief Rehabilitation Operation Ribbon, for answering the call of duty for the fight against COVID-19.

The singer and army reservist was awarded by Army Commanding General LT Gen. Gilbert Gapay and Armor Pambato Division Commander Major General Robert C. Dauz during the 44th Founding Anniversary celebration of the Armor Division.

The event was held at the Armor Pambato Division Headquarters Camp O'Donnell in Capas, Tarlac on Tuesday, June 16.

According to the Armor Pambato Division, the two awards symbolize the strength, dedication, and hard work of Ronnie, who actively fulfilled his duty during the quarantine.

As an army frontliner, he facilitated transportation assistance for the stranded medical workers, participated in relief goods distributions, and assisted the 30-day repacking of relief goods for the affected families of COVID-19.

He also gave his time at checkpoints in Valenzuela City and NLEX Balintawak and participated in AFP Mobile Kitchen Kapwa Ko Sagot Ko, feeding 3,000 to 4,000 homeless and less fortunate Filipinos.

Ronnie expressed his gratitude to the Philippine Army for the awards given to him, "I would like to share these awards Meritorious Achievement Medal (MAM) and Disaster Relief & Rehabilitation Operations Ribbon ( DRRO) to all the men in uniform who answered the call of duty in the fight against Covid19."

Meanwhile, Ronnie will soon resume shooting for his new movie Harang, a Crash Landing On You-inspired project directed by Njel de Mesa. He's also part of an upcoming Viva movie titled Spell Bound.

Like other industries, the entertainment industry is expected to follow some protocols for the "new normal" when it comes to taping TV shows and shooting movies.

Ronnie admitted to GMANetwork.com that he has mixed emotions about going back to work.

“Masaya, excited, at may kaba dahil ilang buwan ding hindi naka-arte sa kamera dahil sa coronavirus.

"Na-miss ko ang production, ang mga nangyayari sa set, mga kwentuhan, mga biruan, learnings.

“Now that we have to go back to work, lalo na lead role dito sa Harang, I have to give my best.

"Last time kasi na lead role ko ay nabigyan ako ng acting award ng Gawad Pasado.

“Siyempre, ine-expect ko na mahigpit na implementations and willing naman talaga mag-cooperate ang production dito sa pag-shoot like, 14 days quarantine and i-test muna before mag-shoot, then, naka-lockdown sa set.

"Pero nakakalungkot din dahil ganoon na talaga ang new normal habang wala pang vaccines."

Ronnie said everybody has no choice but to adapt to the "new normal."

“Pero ganun talaga, we need to adapt, accept it and move on.

“Ganun naman, di ba, kapag may bago sa sistema, sa una mahirap, hanggang sa makasanayan na.

“Iniisip din naman ng production ang safety ng lahat.

"But ayun na nga, handa na ako magbalik shoot dahil sinusunod ko naman ang health protocols like eating healthy, 'tapos vitamins talaga, and work out," he concluded.
