Ben&Ben tops Korea's Melon Search Charts

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

Filipino indie-folk pop band Ben&Ben is dominating in Korea as it trends in one of its most popular streaming services called the Melon Charts.

On Wednesday evening, the 9-member group was taken aback after Filipino fans tweeted that the word “Ben and Ben” is currently trending in the East Asian country and is even followed by their single titled “Leaves.”

“I can't believe it. We're trending #1 in South Korea,” tweeted the band together with a screenshot of the Melon Realtime Search Chart.

On Facebook, they posted the same image but this time they described the feeling as “crazy.”

Filipino fans assume that the sudden interest in South Korea may be due to DAY6's Young K and NCT's Mark Lee mentioning Ben&Ben on their respective V Lives.

According to Young K, “Ben&Ben's 'Leaves,' it was amazing. Wow, I was surprised.

“Of course, anytime! I'd be honored [to do a collab with them] because they're amazing.

“I was surprised! They have a great voice and great music.”

Similarly, NCT's Mark played the said single on his V Live late Wednesday evening and upon listening to the first verse of the song the K-pop idol simply said, “Oh wow, everyone [listen to] the emotion [of the song].”

He even thanked Filipino fans for recommending the piece to him.

Ben&Ben was elated to hear the news from their supporters and shared snippets of the two live streams on their official Instagram page.

In it, they said, “This week, a lot of great K-pop acts discovered our music. Here is Young K of @day6kilogram and Mark of @NCT127!

“Thank you for appreciating 'Leaves.' We will listen to your music too.”

Young K and Mark are not the only Korean pop acts that raved about the OPM band.

K-pop idols like Red Velvet's Wendy, NCT's Renjun and Chenle, The Boyz, and ASTRO's Cha Eunwoo have all declared their love for the band.

It's about time Ben&Ben does a collab with one of these artists, don't you think?
