WATCH: Winnie Monsod, Boots Anson Roa, and Leo Martinez try Zoom

By Marah Ruiz

The ongoing pandemic has left the entire country under many restrictions. And most of these strict guidelines apply to the most vulnerable, especially senior citizens.

Most, if not all, of our lolos and lolas have not left the house since the beginning of the quarantine. And because socialization is important, a lot of them have to learn to socialize using other means to stay connected.

One such tool that is so popular these days are video calling apps. This is perfect for reaching out to and communicating with friends and loved ones.

In an episode of the New Normal: The Survival Guide series Newsmakers host Winnie Monsod shares what she learned about video conferencing app Zoom with fellow senior citizens and friends Boots Anson Roa and Leo Martinez.

Tita Winnie is 80 years old while Boots and Leo are both 75 years old.

"Ako ay 80 years old na and this pandemic restricts socialization. Buti na lang advanced na ang technology. We have to be on top of this technology so we can use it," says Tita Winnie.

Leo admits that it is hard for seniors like him to adapt to technology which is constantly changing.

"Mahirap talaga. Mabuti na lang may mga anak at may mga apo ako na marunong sa technology. Maski na 'yung sa cellphone, hindi ko pa rin talaga alam ang lahat ng mga gamit ng cellphone," he shares.

Boots agrees with the sentiment but says that she is willing to learn.

"Talagang ang generation gap is reflected in our knowledge or lack of knowledge of technology. That's why my children call me technologically impaired. Okay lang sa akin 'yun kasi totoo," she says.

Winnie then tries to teach Boots and Leo how to invite people to a Zoom meeting. Will they be successful?
