Gina Pareño, interested to be part of upcoming Disney film

The casting team of an upcoming Walt Disney Studios film has recently announced that they are on the lookout for a Filipino lola to be part of their cast, and award-winning Filipino actress Gina Pareño took to Twitter to express her interest to audition for the said role.

Gina tweeted, “Pasado ba ako 'pag nag audition ako sa Disney? RETWEET IF YOU AGREE” (Will I pass if I audition for Disney? RETWEET IF YOU AGREE).

Followers and fans of Gina then jumped into action and retweeted the actress's post and tagged Disney's Twitter pages, hoping that Disney will consider the veteran actress for the role.

Many also cheered on the 70-year-old actress and explained why they think she is the perfect choice.

Gina has starred in countless movies and TV series in the Philippines since 1963 and has won several local and international acting awards during the span of her career.

Her role in the 2006 film Kubrador won her Best Actress awards from the Amiens International Film Festival, Osian's Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema, and the 33rd Festival International du Film Indépendant de Bruxelles (Belgium).

In 2007, she won Best Actress at the Asian Television Awards for her role in the "Rehas" episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya.

Gina also won Best Actress at the Pacific Meridian International Film Festival in 2008 and Best Supporting Actress at the Asian Film Awards in 2009 for her exceptional performance in the movie Serbis.

In the Philippines, Gina has won the Best Supporting Actress award multiple times: at the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) in 2006, and at the Star Awards for Movies, Luna Awards and the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Award or FAMAS in 2007.

She also won the Best Actress award from prestigious award-giving bodies like the Golden Screen Awards and the Gawad Urian in 2007 for her outstanding performance in the film Kubrador.

Other special recognitions that Gina received are the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Star Awards for Movies in 2010, the Global Achievement by a Filipino Artist from the GMMSF Box-Office Entertainment Awards also in 2010, and the Best Actress of the Decade award from Gawad Urian in 2011.

According to Sarah Finn Casting, the casting team for the upcoming Disney film, no professional acting experience is required and interested applicants need only to send them a short video with a self-introduction part in English, and a part where aspirants share a story about their family or favorite activity, in whatever Filipino language or dialect they prefer.

Also, part of the requirements is for the lucky Filipino lola to be authorized to work in the United States, as the filming location will be in Atlanta, Georgia.

Will Gina Pareño be the next Filipino actor to star in a Disney film? We shall soon find out.
