SHINee showcases electrifying performance in 'Don't Call Me'

After more than two years, K-pop boy group SHINee is officially back, and they're changing the game once again with their latest single, “Don't Call Me.”

“Don't Call Me,” the title song off of their latest full-length album of the same name, is a hip-hop dance track that tells how the protagonist is severing ties with his ex-lover after being betrayed by her.

The more than four-minute song showcases SHINee members' Onew and Taemin's effortless vocals and Minho and Key's spitfire rap skills as they express their hysterical emotions throughout the immersive track.

The lyrics go, “You won't be able to handle it, you're just obsessed because nobody was as good to you as I was / You must be so tired of making up everything / You must've had a lot on your mind / Don't call me (you're crazy) / Don't call me (you don't know you waste my time) / Don't call me (feel it, you're the worst) / Don't call me (I hate your call) / Your love is over.”

During their VLive special event for fans, the K-pop boy group shared unique details about their album, which includes a total of nine songs, namely “Don't Call Me,” “Heart Attack,” “Marry You,” “Code,” “I Really Want You,” “Kiss, Kiss,” “Body Rhythm,” “Attention,” and “Kind.”

According to the members, each song showcases their wide variety of colors and vocal range as they try to experiment with as much sound as possible in their seventh full-length album.

During their one-hour live broadcast, members shared which track happens to be their favorite and recall some behind-the-scenes shenanigans when recording the album.

When listening to “Marry You,” the members shared that they couldn't believe that fans were able to connect the song to the story arch of “Noona” -- the fictional character from their debut single “Replay” back in 2008.

Minho said, “When we performed this back in January 31st, during our live comeback, I heard that fans passed out during the 'Girl I wanna marry you' part.”

Key added, “After we recorded this song, I had no idea that there'd be a universe connecting 'Replay,' 'Lovesick,' and 'Marry You' from fans.”

They then chimed in to ask Onew, the group's leader, what he thinks of marrying “noona” from 13 years ago.

The singer answered, “Noona, I hope you stick with us through the end.”

Out of all the nine tracks, the members agree that the song “Kind” stands out as it is the only one with a slow tempo.

Minho said, “Personally among the nine tracks in the album, this is the only song with soft sounds. I love this track.”

Key shared, “When recording this song, I thought of loneliness. You know that feeling when you feel overwhelmed? That's how it feels.”

By the end of the live stream, SHINee thanked all of their fans for sticking with them and hoped that they support their new album as they are officially making a comeback in the K-pop world after their military hiatus.

They said, “We really worked hard on our album, so we hope you enjoy it. Everyone, please support SHINee.”
