The cast of top-rating Korean drama Squid Game appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where they talked about their experience working on the show.

Squid Game lead actor Lee Jung-jae who plays the role of Gi-hun shared, "It is a show about Gi-hun and various characters who come together for a mysterious survival game that has the cash prize of 45.6 billion won."

"So it's a story about all those people coming together each with their own pain and struggles and each must win. The first prize in this game no matter what, putting their lives on the line to become the winner.

Actor Park Hae-soo who played Cho Sang-woo said, "I am so thankful that so many folks are watching this through so many media outlets. But I feel it even more at this very moment. It's real, I feel it in my bones.

"I definitely think part of the appeal is the Korean children's games. That can be very original, refreshing and also shocking at the same time to global viewers.

"I also feel like we did a good job expressing the true human nature of raw greed and human nature that took place inside the games which I believe with a lot of the audiences," he said.

The show's host Jimmy Fallon was curious to know about the show's little known trivia and little known secrets. Jimmy asked, "This show's pretty dark but your character is optimistic and funny. Is there anything that didn't make it to the show or things in the show that were improvised?"

Lee Jung-jae answered by recalling a scene where he added his own improvisation, "There was definitely a lot of improv during the shoots but one thing I remember is the scene where Sae-byeok (Jung Ho-yeon) and my character, Gi-hun run into each other for the first time. I bump into her and actually make her drop her coffee."

"Typically you would just pick it up and hand it to her but I noticed the straw on the ground so I improvised and tried to stick the straw back into the cup. I tried to do it multiple times. That made Ho-yeon crack up so hard that she couldn't lift her head up.

Park Hae-soo also shared that he welcomed his firstborn son right before Squid Game premiered on television, which led to his baby fondly being nicknamed "Baby Squid."

"Thank you so much. It was quite amazing because the premiere of 'Squid Game' was at 4:00 p.m. KST and the first time I got to meet my son was at 3:50 pm. So he is my lucky charm and a bundle of blessings for me. My friends and many people around me call him, 'Baby Squid.'"

Squid Game premiered worldwide on September 17 and is now the top-ranked series in the United States on Netflix. The show is expected to become the most-watched non-English show in the streaming platform's history.
