Rapper Kanye West officially changes name to Ye

By Bong Godinez

Kanye West who?

A Los Angeles judge granted the rapper's request to change his name to Ye, a petition filed in August for “personal reasons.”

The 44-year-old artist first floated the idea of changing his name way back in 2018 following the release of his eighth studio album titled Ye.

He would tweet later, “The being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.”

A 2018 interview with radio personality Big Boy had the rapper saying, “I believe 'ye' is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means you. So it's I'm you, I'm us, it's us.”

Adopting a new name is not new among celebrities in the US such as in the case of Prince, Sean Love Combs, Snoop Dogg, and even basketball star Ron Artest.

Ye hogged the headlines in February after his wife, reality star Kim Kardashian, filed for divorce after nearly seven years of marriage.

The two, who have four children, mutually agreed to the divorce and forego spousal support. They also agreed to joint custody of their kids.

Before the split, Ye threw his hat into the political arena by running in the 2020 US presidential race won by Joe Biden.

In the meantime, take a look at some of our local celebrities who filed for annulment or divorce in this gallery.
