Catriona Gray is this year's Miss Universe backstage host

By Ron Lim

Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray is coming back to the Miss Universe stage - this time as the pageant's backstage host.

Catriona shared the news on her Instagram account, posting a couple of photos while also writing in the caption that her role is now “official.” Organizers of the Miss Universe pageant had announced her role last week, where she will be joined by American Ninja Warrior co-host Zuri Hall.

This is the second time in the past six months that Catriona has taken on hosting duties for a beauty pageant. Back in July, Catriona was a co-host for the Binibining Pilipinas pageant, along with 2016 Binibining Pilipinas Grand International Nicole Cordoves.

Representing the country in this year's pageant is Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi, who recently flew to New Orleans as she gears up for the pageant set to happen on January 15.

As the Miss Universe coronation night draws closer, the Miss Universe Philippines Instagram account has also called on Filipinos to help Celeste “carve her path” to the crown by voting on the Miss Universe app.

Celeste will be competing for the newly revealed “Force for Good” crown. Made by jewelry and luxury watch company Mouawad, the crown features 110 carats of blue sapphires and 48 carats of white diamonds.

According to new Miss Universe owner Anne Jakrajutatip, the new crown is valued at almost $6 million, or Php335,133,000 based on current exchange rates.

Before the final leg of her training in the United States, Celeste immersed herself in advocacy work, visiting communities in Lanao del Norte alongside the non-government organization Save the Children.

Celeste also helped repackage relief goods in October last year to “truly kickstart the holiday season” for families that have been victims of a fire in Sampaloc, Manila.
