Ian Ignacio to share basic self defense techniques in 'Descendants of the Sun Ph' online show

By Jansen Ramos

Actor Ian Ignacio is often offered to play the role of a villain in both TV and film because of his physique and background in martial arts.

A proof of that is his character in Descendants of the Sun (The Philippine Adaptation) where he champions action scenes, showing off his self-defense techniques.

In the series, Ian plays Greg, a member of the domestic terrorist group Philippine Revolutionary Group or PRG led by Rodel, who is portrayed by Neil Ryan Sese.

That is why Ian fittingly chose to share his knowledge in basic self defense in the thirteenth episode of Descendants of the Sun Ph's online show, 'DOTS How To Do It.' It will happen live this Thursday, August 27, 7 p.m. on the Facebook page of DOTS Ph.

Self defense not only helps individuals to develop a warrior spirit but it can also build self-confidence and improve physical conditioning.

Born on July 2, 1988, Ian grew up in San Francisco around the martial arts community. He was mentored by Olympic finalist and action star Monsour Del Rosario in the late '90s.

According to his blog in wordpress.com, Ian, a Taekwondo black belter, won gold medals in his days of competition, garnering multiple medals in the Carlos Palanca Jr. Taekwondo Open and gave him an opportunity to be a part of the Philippine Team.

However, he decided to continue his education in the United States and obtained a Bachelor's degree at the Dominican University of California in foreign service.

Ian also practices Dumog, a Filipino style of wrestling, which he used in the 2018 action-drama film, The Trigonal: Fight for Justice.
