Descendants of the Sun (The Philippine Adaptation) female lead star Jennylyn Mercado dedicates the Kapuso series' first international award to fans as it bagged the Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year at the 15th Seoul International Drama Award (SDA), alongside US's Snowpiercer and Italy's The New Pope.

Thanking SDA for DOTS PH's recognition, Jennylyn wrote in her Instagram post, "Maraming salamat po sa karangalan na 'to! Congrats to the DOTS Team!

"Para sa inyo po ito, mga Kapuso!"

According to a press release by SDA Committee, "the organizing committee selected the Philippine version of Descendants of the Sun among several remakes that originated from the KBS drama" because it highlights "the influence of K-drama across borders."

Jennylyn plays Dr. Maxine, a cardio-thoracic surgeon who volunteers for a humanitarian mission where the love blossoms between her and the Special Forces squad leader Captain Lucas, played by Dingdong Dantes.

Ex-couple Song Hye-Kyo and Song Joong-Ki originally portrayed the iconic characters, respectively.

Descendants of the Sun (The Philippine Adaptation) is currently on taping break, following the quarantine measures implemented by the government.

Directed by Dominic Zapata, DOTS Ph will resume regular airing later this year.

For the meantime, its aired full episodes can be streamed in GMANetwork.com and GMA Network app.
