Jasmine Curtis-Smith says 'Love On The Balcony' shows struggles of medical frontliners
Kapuso leading lady Jasmine Curtis-Smith said that her new series “Love On The Balcony” is not just a love story in the time of COVID-19 but also an avenue which showcases the life and struggles of medical frontliners today.
The actress portrays the character of Lea Carbonel, a nurse who is at the frontline of the country's battle against the contagious and life-threatening COVID-19.
During the virtual media conference of “Love On The Balcony” recently, Jasmine said that although the series rings positivity amid the pandemic, it also raises awareness about today's social issues.
“What makes Lea, my character, interesting I think for the audience is the insight sa pamumuhay ng frontliners ngayon.
“Kung paano nila tinatanggap 'yung, I guess, pambabatikos dahil may discrimination din because they are exposed to the setting of the hospital.
“With COVID and all of that, may natatanggap na rin silang discrimination and I think it's a good way to also showcase to our viewers na may mga ganu'n,” she said.
She also noted that the discrimination does not only extend to medical frontliners.
“Kasi, I'm sure mayroon tayong mga kakilala, kapatid, kamag-anak or friends that maybe frontliners themselves in one way or another.
"They may not be nurses or healthcare workers pero nakakatanggap sila ng ganu'ng klaseng discrimination,” she added.
Jasmine Curtis stars in “Love On The Balcony” alongside Asia's Multimedia Star Alden Richards.
The week-long series is one of the four intallments of GMA's newest and one-of-a-kind drama anthology I Can See You.
It follows the story of a wedding video photographer named Iñigo Mapa (Alden) who falls in love with a frontliner nurse named Lea Carbonel (Jasmine) amid the 2019 coronavirus disease COVID-19 pandemic.
Also joining them are Kapuso hunk Pancho Magno, Denise Barbacena, and Shyr Valdez.
Directed by LA Madridejos, I Can See You: Love On The Balcony airs from September 28 to October 2 on GMA Telebabad.
