Barbie Forteza and David Licauco were unexpectedly paired by the viewers of the hit historical-fantasy series, Maria Clara at Ibarra.
Fans expressed their "kilig" whenever Barbie's character named Klay and David's character named Fidel interact on the GMA Telebabad series.
However, the lead actress of the show said it was not their intention to pair Fidel and Klay together when they were doing the series.
In an interview with Nelson Canlas on "Chika Minute," Barbie admitted that they did not expect that viewers will consider her and David's characters as a love team.
“Natatawa ako kasi, even when we were doing the scenes, yung mga ipinapalabas ngayon, hindi naman talaga namin intensyon na magpakilig,” she said.
Barbie is glad that people are looking forward to their FiLay love team.
The original plan between the two characters, who are original ones made for the series, was to show the difference between their attitudes, one of which is from the present and the other, from the past.
In last week's episode, for example, there was a scene where Klay was outside a church and fanning too fast while looking at Fidel as he greets her. The latter took it as as a sign that she likes him, which was an old custom as explained by Maria Clara (Julie Ann San Jose) in the series.
Meanwhile, David is full of praise for his co-star.
“'Pag kaeksena mo siya, for me, parang natural na lang na magre-react na lang ako sa mga binibigay niya sa 'kin,” he said.
Netizens have previously shared their thoughts on the chemistry between the two actors and characters, saying that they look good together. They've also expressed their hope that Klay will have her own Fidel once she's back in her own time.
Aside from the kilig scenes, the FiLay love team was also praised for the intense argument scene, where they talked about their different perspectives on the poor and the rich.
Viewers described it as such as both characters argued their points until Klay slapped Fidel.
