PBA: Jerrick Ahanmisi powers San Miguel past Titan Ultra with breakout game

Jerrick Ahanmisi delivered his best game yet in a San Miguel uniform, steering the Beermen to a 143-105 victory over Titan Ultra in the PBA Season 50 Governors' Cup on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Ahanmisi bounced back from a dismal two-point outing in their 110-96 loss to NLEX last Sunday, erupting for 26 points this time as the Beermen got back on the winning track with a 4-1 card in Group A.

George King also sizzled with 35 points, together with eight rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and two blocks, while Don Trollano churned out 22 markers, five boards, and two dimes off the bench.

"It was a game of runs. It's difficult, knowing what Titan can do. Nakita naman natin na grabe umi-score 'yang mga 'yan, especially kapag tumatakbo sila so we were weary of that," SMB deputy Peter Martin said.

"We cleaned up the things we need to clean up coming from NLEX [game]."

San Miguel, reeling from its first loss of the conference, vented its ire on the Giant Risers by turning a slim 61-58 halftime lead to a 110-81 cushion at the end of the third thanks to a 49-point explosion in the frame.

During that blistering third-quarter rampage, King erupted for 23 of his total points, highlighted by a four-point bucket that stretched San Miguel's lead to 104-77 late in the period. Ahanmisi also played a key role in the onslaught, scoring 12 of his points in the frame.

The massive cushion allowed San Miguel to rest its starters for the remainder of the game, with bench players Andreas Cahilig, JM Calma, and Jeron Teng taking care of business to complete the rout.

Joshua Munzon led the way for Titan Ultra in the losing cause after he finished with 25 points, six rebounds, and five assists while Bryan Sajonia chimed in with 19 markers off the bench.

"I think today was a good showing for me just because of the way that I've been playing. I kinda hold a high standard to myself and the past couple of games I haven't been playing my best," said Ahanmisi, who shot 1-of-9 in that loss to the Road Warriors.

"So today I'm just glad to find the rhythm early."
