Marian Rivera brings smiles to Yolanda survivors in Tacloban

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte. — Nothing but pure fun and entertainment reeled off last October 15 during the Kapuso Fans’ Day of GMA Primetime Queen Marian Rivera held at the event center of Robinson’s Place Tacloban.
It was a humbling experience for the actress meeting a number of Yolanda survivors, who, despite losing almost everything to Yolanda's wrath nearly a year ago, are now able to smile, sing, dance, and even laugh with her.
“Iba talaga ang Pinoy. Ano man ang mangyari, ngingiti at ngingiti, babangon at babangon pa rin. ‘Yun ang nakakatuwa sa mga taga-Tacloban dahil sa kabila ng sakunang naranasan nila, ang sarap tingnan ng mga mukha nilang nakangiti at nag-chi-cheer,” shared Marian.
A first-timer in the province, Marian was surprised that her two-hour mall show, which also featured performances from Kapuso comedian Boobay and dance group J-Crew, was able to gather an estimated crowd of 12,000. Tacloban City Councilor Cristina Gonzalez-Romualdez also graced the said event.
“Nakakataba ng puso na ganoon kainit ang pagtanggap nila sa akin,” she added, promising before the audience that one day she will be going back to visit them again.
The afternoon started with J-Crew entertaining the crowd with cool moves to the tune of some of Marian’s popular dance hits like Chiquita, So Sexy, and Sabay-sabay Tayo.
Celebrity Bluff co-host Boobay then welcomed everyone to the revelry by belting out his rendition of OPM songs such as Wag na Wag Mong Sasabihin and Nosi Balasi. He even recognized the presence of an elderly couple, already in their eighties, who was very excited to see Marian.
For her part, Marian did not disappoint as she pulled off a beautiful performance by singing and dancing a la Jennifer Lopez. She also greeted her fans in Waray, signed the magazines they brought, and even invited some of her male supporters on stage, giving one lucky guy a chance to kiss her on the cheek.
Tacloban already counts as Marian’s 12th stop after her successful shows in Naga, Baguio, Dagupan, Cebu (Consolacion and city proper), Roxas, Bacolod, Davao, and General Santos cities, Daraga in Albay, and Clark in Pampanga.
“Whenever we bring Marian to any city or province in the country, we are always welcomed with the same overwhelming response by her supporters. It’s truly inspiring to see the smiles in their faces, especially in Tacloban where we witnessed the people’s resiliency and sheer strength.
