2019 NCAA Finals MVP Fran Yu distributes pandesal, coffee to Intramuros residents

NCAA star Fran Yu has been spending his time helping other people amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Chino Trinidad's report on "24 Oras," the 2019 Finals Most Valuable Player regularly distributes pandesal and instant coffee to the community surrounding Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Intramuros.

The initiative is a weekly project started by Fr. Vic Calvo, the athletic director of Letran.

"Masaya kasi nakapagbigay ako ng almusal sa mga mas nangangailangan po," said Yu, who led the Letran Knights to their championship run in Season 95.

The point guard said he needed to adjust like everyone else when the pandemic hit and Luzon had to be placed under community quarantine.

"Nung una mahirap kasi hindi kami sanay na nasa bahay lang. Sanay kami na papasok nga sa school tapos practice," he said.

When Yu started giving out food to Intramuros residents, however, he began to realize that he is still in a fortunate situation despite being unable to play basketball for nearly a year now.

"Blessed pa rin po ako na nakakakain ako ng three times a day or higit pa," he said.

He also remembered his parents' lesson to be content with what they have. And these days, there's nothing else he wishes except for his loved ones to remain safe.

"Gusto ko makatulong muna sa family ko na maging stay healthy kaming lahat na walang magkasakit," he said.
