How an injury led to NCAA and San Sebastian product Marco Alcaraz meeting his beauty queen wife

Not known to many, Kapuso actor Marco Alcaraz was once part of the San Sebastian College basketball team.

Alcaraz, who hails from Cebu, joined the Stags in 2003, and was eyeing to lead the team to a three-peat after the team scored a back-to-back crowns in 2001 and 2002. But he failed to complete the feat due to an injury that sidelined him for six months.

And while recovering, Alcaraz tried his luck at showbiz by auditioning for a TV show, which he eventually made. It was during his showbiz stint that he would meet his wife Precious Lara Quigaman, who was named Miss International 2005.

“It was a blessing to be given an opportunity to enter showbiz. As told by many, when one door closes, another door opens up. If I did not get injured back then, I would not have met my wife now,” he shared on  'Rise Up Stronger: The Road to NCAA Season 96'.

Alcaraz shared that just making it to the Stags roster was not easy as he had to spend two years in Team B before finally making it to the lineup.

“I went to Manila and tried out for a lot of teams and it was a blessing to find my way to NCAA,” the 6-foot-5 actor-model recalled.

“Actually, before I played in the NCAA, I was on Team B for two years. You really have to have hard work and perseverance. Usually, our training is in the morning and it’s really the discipline and willingness to sacrifice that will make you achieve your goals.”

Watch his story on GMA Synergy's 'Rise Up Stronger: The Road to NCAA Season 96' every weekday (2:45 p.m.), Saturdays (4:30 p.m.), and Sundays (5:05 p.m.) on GTV.
