Enoch Valdez says Lyceum's 0-3 start served as motivation as Pirates end drought

For some, a 0-3 win-loss card could be the worst kind to open a season.

But Enoch Valdez, the linchpin of offense for the Lyceum of the Philippines University, said their three heartbreaking losses to uncork the NCAA Season 97 were what motivated them to do better in the next games.

They did just that as they eked out an 82-75 victory over Jose Rizal University to formally barge into the win column and keep the Heavy Bombers the only winless team at 0-4.

"Sa amin mas natutunan namin 'yung trusting each other and believing in the system lang kasi pag sa iba, 'yung 0-3 mada-down ka talaga eh," Valdez said.

"Pero kami mas na-build namin. Mas nagtiwala kami sa isa't-isa, sa coaches namin, at sa system namin."

Valdez poured in a double-double of 21 points, 12 rebounds, and five steals as they joined a logjam in the middle of the standings. They also strengthened their chances of  making it to the play-in tournament.
