Rhenz Abando knows what his goal is for NCAA Season 97.
Abando, playing in his first year for the Letran Knights, averaged a league-leading 18 points per game over the first three games of his NCAA career and is generating buzz for potential individual awards at the end of the season.
But the high-flying forward’s eyes are set firmly on one prize — and that’s bring this year’s title back to Muralla.
“Di naman mahalaga sa kin ‘yung mga (individual accolades). Ang gusto ko lang, ayoko na maging runner-up na lang ulit. Gusto ko mag-champion talaga,” Abando said after his team’s 80-60 win over Mapua, which gave Letran a 4-0 record.
Before transferring to Letran in the NCAA, the high-flying forward suited up for the UST Growling Tigers in the UAAP and reached the finals, so he knows the heartbreak of a runner-up finish.
But Abando, who posted 14 points and nine rebounds in the Knights' most recent win, knows the task won’t be easy given the competition.
“May respeto kami sa lahat ng team dito. Di naman sila sasali kung di sila lalaban. So ayun, lahat sila nahirapan kami. Nirerespeto namin sila as a team and player.”
