Marwin Taywan stars as EAC torches JRU for second win

BOX SCORE

Marwin Taywan played the lead role as Emilio Aguinaldo College added to Jose Rizal University's woes, 80-65, and picked up its second win in NCAA Season 97 on Saturday at the La Salle Green Hills Gym.

Taywan finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and five assists to lead EAC.

He had plenty of help in this one, though, with Ralph Robin chipping in 11 markers and Allen Liwag flirting with a double-double with 10 points and eight boards.

JP Maguliano, meanwhile, had an all-around game, posting seven points, 15 big rebounds, including eight on the offensive end, and four assists.

EAC improved to 2-3 while JRU remained winless to stay at the cellar with a 0-5 card.

JRU actually led after the first period, 18-14, before Taywan took matters into his own hands by scoring eight points in the second quarter, including back-to-back triples for a 28-20 spread.

With Taywan's teammates riding on his energy and momentum, EAC ended the first two periods holding a 41-27 cushion. The EAC guard tallied 12 of his 14 points by halftime.

CJ Cadua then ignited in the third frame, knocking down two shots from beyond the arc, one of which gave EAC a 20-point advantage, 52-32. JRU could only chop down their deficit by two as EAC marched to the payoff period with a 61-43 lead.

Taywan buried a basket to basically put the game away, 69-47, as JRU never threatened a comeback.

EAC will look to book its third win when it clashes with San Sebastian College-Recoletos on Wednesday while JRU will try to upset College of Saint Benilde on Tuesday.
